The Core Principle, Part Five (Supercharge Me)

Have you ever heard those stories of people getting a shot of adrenaline leading to moments of superhuman strength? For example, ABC News reported in 2012 that 22-year-old Lauren Kornacki rescued her father after the jack used to prop up his BMW slipped, pinning him under it. Lauren lifted the car, then performed CPR on her father and saved his life.

That story leaves me in awe. I am amazed at the untapped capacity of the human body, and it makes me think: Is there untapped capacity in my faith as well? Can God supercharge my faith just like a shot of adrenaline can supercharge my body?

This idea of a supercharged faith is all throughout the Bible. In fact, Jesus promises in Acts 1:8 (NIV) that, "You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you….” So there is a supernatural power available to each of us, and that power is through the Holy Spirit. He supercharges our faith by giving us spiritual gifts, wisdom, and discernment. He gives us words of encouragements and visions of the future. He even gives us the ability to pray in the language of heaven. Talk about a supercharged faith!

So do you feel like you have that kind of faith? Do you experience moments of supernatural wisdom, prayer, and healing? Without a doubt, all of us have days where we feel down and out. Having a supercharged faith in no way means we live the perfect life and are able to overcome every struggle like we’re lifting a car with our pinky fingers.

But if you were to be really honest, have you tapped into the fullness God offers you through the gift of the Holy Spirit?

Unfortunately, many of us have been conditioned to think of the Holy Spirit as that somewhat quirky relative you keep out of sight. So let me just say that having preconceptions like that is totally normal, and oftentimes, those preconceptions are the byproduct of other believers misappropriating the gifts and experiences of the Holy Spirit.

But don’t let that deter you from experiencing more of God. Don’t let the mistakes of others keep you from receiving the gift of the baptism of the Holy Spirit—a gift that supercharges your faith in ways you could never even think of or imagine. Just think of how your faith would be strengthened by living in the fullness of God’s Spirit. That’s why a life in the Spirit is part of our faith cores, and why we encourage you to join a God I Never Knew Lifegroup

These groups are based on a Pastor Robert Morri’s (Gateway Church, Texas) book by the same title. It is the most honest and complete resource on inviting the Holy Spirit in greater ways in your life, and one we recommend for every person to go through while at River Valley.
